This is such an evocative poem. It speaks to the fact that we, as humans, tend to play down our hopes and wishes so that the disappointment won’t hurt so much. We seem to rob ourselves twice- once when we stop ourselves from dreaming our wildest dreams . Then, when those dreams come true , we worry about the dream not lasting .

I’m sorry if I went off on a completely different tangent than what was imagined for the reader . However, your words and my imagery at the beginning of the poem led me down this rabbit holes. So, apologies for the off-road trip 🫣
